AI in maintenance
mit IBM Maximo

Use your data intelligently and optimize your maintenance sustainably

This is how you transform your maintenance from reactive to predictive

Maintenance organizations are under significant pressure today. Costs are rising, and the complexity of assets is increasing. At the same time, there is an expectation to operate assets reliably and as safely as possible over the long term. All of this makes maintenance a highly complex task.

The reality in many companies today looks like this: documentation is often incomplete or difficult to access, data is scattered across different systems, and data quality is often insufficient for well-founded decisions.

However, fragmented legacy solutions make end-to-end processes more difficult. The shortage of skilled workers and the increasing effort required for onboarding and necessary knowledge transfer further exacerbate the situation.

The result: decisions are often based on experience rather than reliable data. As a result, valuable potential remains unused.

This is exactly where modern AI functionalities in the IBM Maximo Application Suite come in. They help: to use data intelligently. To automate processes. To make well-founded decisions. And all of this directly in day-to-day maintenance operations.

The AI functionalities of the IBM Maximo Application Suite provide optimal support for maintenance teams. The integrated knowledge management helps them, for example, to identify anomalies at an early stage, prevent failures, and sustainably optimize their maintenance.

We support you from strategy through to successful implementation.

Would you like to see what this could look like in your maintenance in practice?

The modules of the IBM Maximo Application Suite and their AI value-added

These AI functionalities are offered by the modules of IBM Maximo

The IBM Maximo Application Suite forms the technological foundation for the use of AI in maintenance. It integrates data from a wide variety of sources into a central platform — from EAM and ERP systems to IoT and sensor data, as well as external data sources.
In many companies, information and data are currently spread across different systems. They are often not available in the required quality. This lack of transparency and data consistency prevents companies from fully leveraging all existing potential in maintenance.
The Application Suite provides a remedy here. It structures, links, and harmonizes data, making it usable for analysis and AI applications. The result is a consistent data foundation that serves as the basis for all further AI applications.
We support you in establishing this foundation. We integrate the Maximo Application Suite into your system landscape and develop a sustainable data strategy with you.

Would you like to experience how AI can concretely support your daily maintenance processes?

Maximo Manage forms the core of operational maintenance. New AI functionalities specifically enhance it. Manage supports users in their daily work. It structures information automatically, recognizes connections, and provides concrete recommendations for action.

One example: based on a fault report, Manage automatically suggests a damage code and provides suitable measures — based on historical data. The same principle applies to system queries. Prioritization of work orders is also supported by intelligent analyses. This means decisions no longer have to rely solely on experience.

All existing knowledge is systematically captured in Maximo. Via chatbot, it can be accessed by anyone at any time, regardless of the experience level of individual employees — a decisive advantage in light of the shortage of skilled workers and long onboarding times.

The result: standardized, more efficient processes and a significantly higher quality in work order execution.

Maximo Monitor enables the continuous monitoring of asset conditions. It uses all available IoT and sensor data for this purpose. AI automatically analyzes this data and identifies any deviations from normal conditions at an early stage.

The integrated anomaly detection identifies patterns and changes in real time that indicate potential problems. Manual analysis is no longer required, as every relevant event is automatically detected and triggers a corresponding alert.

In practice, such deviations often go unnoticed for a long time and are typically only discovered once damage has already occurred. As a result, companies tend to act reactively, leading to high costs and risks.

The consolidated data foundation now being created enables the use of all existing data. This allows you to intervene at an early stage, reduce unplanned downtime, and sustainably increase asset availability. At the same time, you create the foundation for proactive maintenance.

Would you like to see live how anomaly detection works in your own asset?

Maximo Visual Inspection extends traditional maintenance with the automated analysis of images and videos. AI models analyze visual data and reliably detect defects, deviations, or quality issues.
In practice, visual inspections are time-consuming. They depend heavily on the experience of individual employees and are not always consistent. This is exactly where Visual Inspection comes in. AI takes over the analysis and ensures an objective and reproducible evaluation. The major advantage of this solution is that it is scalable and fast, allowing you to carry out inspections much more efficiently while improving quality.
A typical use case is the identification of damage or components directly from a photo. For example, defects can be classified or suitable spare parts identified. This speeds up your processes and reduces errors.
We combine Visual Inspection with mobile solutions and augmented reality approaches. In this way, we create end-to-end digital assistance systems that optimally support your technicians on site.

Would you like to create transparency across your critical assets?
Maximo Health evaluates and visualizes the condition of your assets continuously and clearly. It automatically calculates condition and risk indicators based on a wide range of data sources, including historical information and current operational data. The result is a comprehensive “health status” of your assets — a holistic view that not only reflects the current condition but also makes potential risks visible at an early stage.

Especially in established maintenance structures, transparency is often lacking: Which assets are actually critical? Where is specific action required? As a result, decisions are frequently based on experience or isolated information, making prioritization difficult and investments uncertain.

Maximo Health provides a remedy. It objectively evaluates and prioritizes your assets, giving you a clear basis for decision-making in your maintenance strategy: focus your actions where they deliver the greatest value.

Maximo Predict takes your maintenance to the next level. It uses machine learning models to identify failures at an early stage and determine optimal maintenance timing. AI recognizes patterns and relationships that indicate impending faults and calculates specific failure probabilities — using both historical data and ongoing operational information.

Many companies still rely on fixed maintenance intervals or only react when failures occur. The result: unnecessary maintenance actions or unplanned downtime and high costs. This is where Predict comes in — enabling condition-based and data-driven maintenance planning.

The result: significantly higher asset availability and optimized maintenance costs. Technicians perform actions exactly when they are actually required — not too early and not too late.

However, the quality of the predictions depends heavily on your data foundation. We support you in building and optimizing your data so that Predict can unfold its full potential.
